EAS ADVANCED COURSE IN RARE LIPID DISORDERS
Wellcome!
A significant number of clinicians do not know much about rare lipid disorders and one might question why there is a need to organize a webinar on this topic. This question is partly justifiable particularly because a lot of studies have shown that many clinicians do not treat their patients with „usual“ lipid disorders whom they see almost every day except for a diet and life-style counceling or, if they treat them with lipid lowering drugs, they do not achieve with their terapy the goals as defined by the guidelines.
Although the prevalence of each individual rare lipid disorder is low, collectively they are not so very rare and they are definitevely extremely important for the individual patient. Any busy practitioner might encounter a patient with a rare lipid disorder and therefore needs to be familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. This is particularly important since most of these diseases are associated with high morbidity and mortality. During this EAS course we will try to make you more familial with these diseases and to help you to improve the knowledge about their diagnosis and inform you about the possibilities of treatment stressing the practical aspects of evaluation and management based upon real clinical cases.
I sincerely hope that each of you will be able to find a specific field of interest among the topics of this meeting and that all of you will benefit from exchange of views, discussions and sharing the results of research, new concepts and treatment possibilities for rare lipid disorders.
